Using Google AdSense -
Influencing the Relevance of the Ads Displayed

One of the great things about Google AdSense is that it displays adverts on web pages that relate to the content of the web page being viewed. Sometimes though, it does not always look as though that is what is happening.

We have all visited web sites that contain content about one thing, but the ad units being displayed relate to something else! For example, you might have a web site that gives people information about medical diagnoses, but the ad units displayed relate to hardware diagnoses of computer hardware.

Ensuring that the ad units displayed are appropriate to the content of the web page requires a certain amount of consideration when producing the content, and experimentation afterwards to perhaps fine tune the adverts that are displayed. For example, it is worth playing around with keyword density to see how that affects the ad units. It is also worth placing keywords close to the AdSense box as this will often have an impact.

You can also use little bits of code to emphasize particular parts of a web page. For example:

The name of the web page and the name of the directory in which it is stored will also play a role in determining the ad units that are displayed. You can often see this effect when viewing a web page on your local computer as opposed to when the web page is loaded on to a web server - the adverts displayed will normally be different.
